Vortex Description of Quantum Hall Ferromagnets
نویسنده
چکیده
We study particle states of quantum Hall ferromagnet from the viewpoint of the incompressible fluid description. It is shown that phase space of Chern-Simons matrix theory which is an effective theory for the incompressible fluid is equivalent to moduli space of vortex theory. According to this correspondence, elementary excitations in vortex theory are identified as particle states in quantum Hall ferromagnet, and thus we propose that a pure electron state is absence from the strong coupling region but only a composite particle state is present. ∗E-mail: [email protected]

Skyrmions and Quantum Hall Ferromagnets in Improved Composite-Boson Theory
An improved composite-boson theory of quantum Hall ferromagnets is proposed. It is tightly related with the microscopic wave-function theory. The characteristic feature is that the field operator describes solely the physical degrees of freedom representing the deviation from the ground state. It presents a powerful tool to analyze excited states within the lowest Landau level. Excitations incl...
متن کاملVortex rings in ferromagnets
Vortex ring solutions are presented for the Landau-Lifshitz equation, which models the dynamics of a three-dimensional ferromagnet. The vortex rings propagate at constant speed along their symmetry axis and are characterized by the integer-valued Hopf charge. They are stable to axial perturbations, but it is demonstrated that an easy axis anisotropy results in an instability to perturbations wh...

In this Letter the method of Lund is applied to formulate a variational principle for the motion of charged vortices in an effective non-linear Schrödinger field theory describing finite size two-dimensional quantum Hall samples under the influence of an arbitrary perpendicular magnetic field. Freezing out variations in the modulus of the effective field yields a U(1) sigma-model. A duality tra...

We discuss the nondissipative Magnus-type force acting on linear defects in Fermi systems, such as Abrikosov vortices in superconductors, singular and continuous vortices in superfluid phases of He, magnetic vortices and skyrmions in ferromagnets. Spectral flow of fermion zero modes in the vortex core gives an essential contribution to the nondissipative force, which is confirmed in Manchester ...
متن کاملHamiltonian Formulation of Quantum Hall Skyrmions with Hopf Term
We study the nonrelativistic nonlinear sigma model with Hopf term in this paper. This is an important issue because of its relation to the currently interesting studies in skyrmions in quantum Hall systems. We perform the Hamiltonian analysis of this system in CP 1 variables. When the coefficient of the Hopf term becomes zero we get the Landau-Lifshitz description of the ferromagnets. The addit...
